Shelley's Richins Saluted with Story in USA Today

by Jeff Fisher
Idaho High School Football Huddle

If you're a regular follower of me, you know that I preach that there are thousands of high school football stories that go untold every year!

Here's a story in today's USA Today that is being told, and I think my readers will enjoy it.

It's about Shelly High School head football coach Dwight Richins, who is returning to the sidelines after serving his country as a reservist in Afgahanistan last season.

The Russets' 2011 season with Coach Richins back, got off to a great start last Friday when Shelley came-back to beat Idaho Falls 38-33 with the game-winning touchdown coming with 1:27 to go in the game.

Shelley has won four state titles in the last eight years.

Idaho Moves Step Closer to New Sports Concussion Law

by Jeff Fisher
Idaho High School Football Huddle

By later this week, Idaho could be the third state with a tougher concussion law that protects high school athletes.

Monday, the Idaho House Senate Affairs Committee unanimously approved a bill called "Kort's Law", named after Teton High School football start Kort Breckenridge, who almost died after a series of concussions in 2005.

The bill requires high school coaches to get medical clearance before allowing athletes to play after suffering a head injury.

Washington and Oregon already have similar laws on the books, and more states are expected to follow suit.
